L. Michael Zinser, CWCMA and NICE General Counsel, gave two presentations at this year’s joint conference. On the morning of Wednesday, June 21, as part of the Single Copy Focus Group and Round Tables, Michael presented a session on the legal issues surrounding scanned-based trading – a system many retailers now require newspapers to use in order to have the publications sold at their stores. The general consensus of newspaper executives is that, despite some conveniences, “pay by scan” is a bad deal for newspapers.
On the morning of Thursday, June 22, Michael gave a presentation titled “Around the Legal World in 45 Minutes.” Important legal developments discussed included the U.S. Department of Labor’s enjoined Overtime Rule; employee discharge issues; the NLRB’s war on independent contractors and its new Joint Employer decision; NLRB vacancies; the U.S. Department of Labor’s attack on independent contractor status (and an Employer-friendly update!); as well as legislative developments.
That evening, The Zinser Law Firm, P.C., also sponsored a fun cocktail party at Planet Hollywood for all CWCMA/NICE conference attendees.
